What Post-Construction Cleaning Actually Includes

July 22, 2026 Lesis Hernandez

A brand-new house can look filthy. Drywall dust is fine enough to get into window tracks, cabinet hinges, light fixtures, and the texture of every wall — and it keeps settling for days after the last trade leaves. That's why post-construction cleaning is its own service and not just a regular house cleaning on a new build.

Most jobs are really two jobs. The rough clean happens while trades are still working: debris and offcuts hauled out, floors swept, surfaces knocked down so the next crew isn't working in a mess. The final clean happens after everything is finished, and that's the one that has to be perfect because the buyer walkthrough comes right after it.

The final clean works from the ceiling down. Light fixtures, fans, and vents first, then walls and the tops of trim, then cabinets — inside, outside, on top, and the toe kicks underneath. Counters and backsplashes get the adhesive residue and any leftover caulk pulled off. Sinks, tubs, and fixtures get the plaster and grout haze cleaned off.

Windows are where post-construction cleaning is won or lost. Stickers and manufacturer labels come off the glass, the tracks get vacuumed and wiped because that's where all the dust collects, and the frames and sills get detailed. A house with clean floors and dusty window tracks still reads as unfinished.

Floors come last. New tile usually needs the grout haze taken off, hardwood and LVP need vacuuming before mopping so grit doesn't get dragged across the finish, and carpet needs a real vacuum, not a pass.

Then the debris goes. Boxes, packaging, offcuts, and whatever else got left in the garage — hauled out so the house is genuinely done.
